Workshop 1: Ethical Challenges in Long-term Care Settings, 1.5 CE
This workshop is part 1 of a 2-part series. Information on part 2 can be found by clicking here.

Presented by Suzanne Meeks, Ph.D.

Organized by the ethical principles that form the foundation of standards for ethical practice of psychology, this workshop will address common ethical challenges that arise in long-term care settings. I will provide a framework for ethical decision-making for us to use to work through at least one case example, and emphasize positive ethical practice for preventing foreseeable ethical dilemmas. Skill Level: Beginning This workshop fulfills 1.5 of the 3 hours necessary according to the KRS 319 ethics/risk management requirement for psychology professionals.

Workshop Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify common ethical challenges that a clinician might encounter in long-term-care settings.
  • Identify the most important ethical principles and the conflicts among them, that can be applied to each common dilemma.
  • Apply an ethical decision-making framework to a specific dilemma in long-term care.
  • Describe how positive ethics practices can help to minimize ethical challenges in long-term care.
