School-Related Anxiety: Helping Students Achieve Success in Non-Traditional Times, 1.5 CE

Presented by Kristie Schultz, Ph.D., Joseph Edwards, Psy.D., Kristen Kyriacou, Psy.D., Zack Thieneman, Psy.D.

Workshop Description:

One of the most anxiety-producing aspects of the current COVID-19 pandemic has centered on the “return to school” questions about timing, methodology, needed resources and choices to be made.  This presentation will focus on the signs of anxiety in students of all ages, as well as their parents and families.  Adding to the issues around school specifically are the impacts of this pandemic on the mental health, social and emotional aspects of students’ lives.  How can we as psychologists help students and families prepare for and successfully engage in the new school year, regardless of the form that it might take?  What resources may be available within school programs for students and what assistance might help parents/guardians to support their children’s success academically, socially and emotionally?  The workshop will provide guidance and resources to help psychologists address critical issues in these non-traditional times. Skill Level: Beginning-Intermediate

Ethics of Assessment in the age of COVID, 2 CE

Presented by Margaret Lanca, Ph.D., Jean Deters, Psy.D., Maggie Wright, Psy.D., & Byron White, Psy.D.

Workshop Description:

Psychological testing via telehealth is not a new phenomenon, but its usage has been much more in demand since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, when face-to-face evaluations were either strictly limited or deemed to be out of the question.  The psychologist is faced with a series of questions to consider:  Is it appropriate to do psychological testing via telehealth in this situation?  Should testing be delayed until it can be done face-to-face?  If done remotely, how should the testing be done?  What kinds of accommodations of test materials and administration should be incorporated?  What guidance is provided by the test publishers?  How do these modifications affect the validity and reliability of results?  The workshop will provide guidance and resources to help psychologists answer these questions. This workshop fulfills 2 of the 3 required ethics CE's according to the 201 KAR 26:175 requirement for Ethics/Risk Management for Psychologists. Skill Level: Intermediate

Part 1: Psychologists’ Well-Being: An aspirational guideline or ethical responsibility?, 1.5 CE

Presented by Abbie O'Ferrell Beacham, Ph.D.

About the Home Study

This home study was part 1 of a 2-part live webinar

Psychologists are stepping up to meet unprecedented clinical, programmatic, and research demands in response to a global pandemic. In general, topics of Burnout and Well-Being among psychologists do not receive as much attention as is warranted. Psychologists find themselves to be consistently “outward facing” and may experience a drain on their own well-being not readily recognized by themselves or others. Consequently, it is now crucial that we systematically attend and be accountable to how this era of progressively increasing demands are affecting our own well-being. This two-part experiential workshop will encourage self-exploration and application of concepts as potential components of psychologists’ ethical responsibility specifically as it pertains to levels of impairment and competence [Section 2.03 and 2.06 (a) (b)]. This workshop fulfills 1.5 of the 3 hours necessary according to the KRS 319 ethics/risk management requirement for psychology professionals. Skill Level: Beginning.
