AM Workshop - Advanced Supervision: Supervising Psychological Assessment, 3 CE

Presented by Nate Mitchell, Ph.D. & Virginia Frazier, Psy.D.

When supervising psychological testing, one must keep apprised of the current research and best practices to ensure professional competency. This training will elucidate how the current standards for education/training provide strategies for increasing technical and clinical skill in the supervisee and mitigating potential legal/ethical concerns. This workshop meets the 3.0 hour advanced supervision requirement for KBEP approved supervisors

Workshop Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Develop a sound supervision model to include educational and psychological testing.
  • Gain knowledge of the most common errors made by trainees and novice clinicians and strategies to prevent them; Repetition and practice does not ensure accuracy!
  • Understand current legal/ethical considerations when supervising psychological and/or psychoeducational evaluations;
  • Increase knowledge of Educational evaluations: Understanding IDEA, 504, & IEPso High stakes testing: Diagnoses and Evidence-based accommodations
  • Gain exposure to special considerations in assessment (e.g. Forensic: Asylum, Fitness-for-duty, Threat assessments, Foreign-born and-or bilingual clients)

About the Presenters:

Nate Mitchell, Ph.D. serves as Associate Professor at Spalding University, where he directs the Health Psychology Emphasis Area in the clinical psychology doctoral program. He trains doctoral students to conduct high quality/empirically supported psychological assessments and psychotherapy. Further, Dr. Mitchell has a part-time private practice focused on the cognitive-behavioral treatment of anxiety, OCD, OCD related disorders (e.g., trichotillomania, skin picking, BFRB, hoarding), chronic illness, and ADHD. Finally, he specializes in the psychological assessment of ADHD and specific learning disorders.

 

 

Virginia S. Frazier, Psy.D. is in private practice specializing in psycho-educational assessments, forensic evaluations of refugees/asylees and immigrants, DHHS/CPS mental health evaluations, and fitness-for-duty evaluations. Her clinical work focuses on the intersection of trauma, addictions, and the impact on the family system.Dr. Frazier obtained her PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and completed her pre-doctoral training in an integrated primary care in Hillsboro, NH and her post-doctoral training at a residential substance abuse program in Louisville, KY. As an adjunct professor at Spalding University, she taught graduate courses in substance and process-related addictive disorders, family/system therapy, and trauma theory, as well as supervising numerous practicum students. Further, Dr. Frazier was the former Director of a university training center for psychology graduate students conducting outpatient therapy and assessment.Dr. Frazier received a Postgraduate Certificate in Traumatic Stress Studies from The Trauma Center at JRI and graduated from the FBI Citizen’s Academy in addition to serving as an Advisory Committee member and subject matter expert for the American Psychological Association’s Disaster Resource Network. Her publications, presentations, and clinical work are in the areas of cultural competency, refugee mental health, addictions, trauma, disaster, and violent critical incidents.

It is important to note that APA continuing education rules require that KPA only give credit to those who attend the entire workshop.  An evaluation of the workshop must be completed. Those who arrive more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time or leave before the workshop is complete will not receive CE credit. Partial credit may not be given.


Cancellation Policy

Cancellations received on/before June 13, 2019 will receive a 90% refund. Cancellations received between June 14-17, 2019, will receive a 50% refund, and cancellations between June 18- 20, 2019 will receive a 20% refund. No refunds available after June 20, 2019.
