Workshop 2 - Exposure Based Therapy in the Treatment of Eating Disorder: How to Tackle the Core Fears, 3 CE Co-sponsored by The Kentucky Psychological Association and The Kentucky Psychological Foundation Presented by Alexandria Pruitt, Psy.D and Street Russel, Psy.D. Presenters will discuss the application of exposure therapy to eating disorders, and how exposure therapy is a successful component of all anxiety disorders. Exposing patients overtime to stressful body image and food-related stimuli can assist them to gain more control over their fears and any dysfunctional eating behaviors they experience. About the Presenters: Alexandria Pruitt, Psy.D. - Assistant Clinical Director of Eating Disorders Dr. Alexandria “Alex” Pruitt is a licensed clinical psychologist who has committed her training and practice to helping children, adolescents, and families navigate psychological diagnoses compounded by medical complications. She graduated with a doctorate in Pediatric Psychology from Spalding University in 2014 and completed her clinical internship at Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her fellowship training focused on the treatment of all eating disorders at The Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt where she provided both inpatient and partial hospitalization level of care.Dr. Alex has experience with the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, pediatric obesity, diabetes management, Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, chronic pain or illness and fatigue syndromes, as well as trauma. Her specialty training allows her to work with children as young as 3 years old. She delivers evidence-based treatments to individuals, groups, and families in a compassionate and solution focused manner. Dr. Alex leads a perfectionism group, a body image group, and an adolescent support group. Street Russell, Psy.D. - Associate Director of the Behavioral Wellness Clinic Dr. Street Russell is a Licensed Psychologist and Associate Director of the Behavioral Wellness Clinic. As a health service provider of psychology (HSPP), he supervises and trains doctoral students and other clinical trainees. Additionally, he is a clinical preceptor for the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. He earned his Psy.D. at Spalding University in 2016, with an emphasis in coursework on health psychology. He completed an internship at the Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka, Kansas, and a post-doctoral fellowship at the Behavioral Wellness Clinic. His dissertation research involved the assessment of individuals with a cancer of the head and neck.Dr. Street Russell works with children, families, and adults with eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder. He is also expert in treating OCD & OCD-related disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and social anxiety. He is trained in providing evidence-based treatment for all the above-mentioned conditions including, but not limited to, exposure with response prevention (Ex/RP), family-based therapy for anorexia nervosa, CBT for eating disorders, cognitive processing therapy (CPT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). He continues to receive regular consultation and training in the treatment of eating disorders from Clinical Director Cheri Levinson, Ph.D. He is approved to provide continued education training to other professionals in the treatment of OCD and eating disorders. An evaluation of the workshop must be completed. Those who arrive more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time or leave before the workshop is complete will not receive CE credit.
