Workshop 1: Therapy and Professional Practice Using Mobile Apps, 3 CE
Presented by Dan Florell, Ph.D.

This presentation will highlight various mobile apps and websites that are appropriate to use to enhance client mental health or help boost office productivity. In addition, ethical and legal implications to consider when using apps and websites will be reviewedSkill Level: Beginning

Workshop 1: Objectives
At the completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss a range of mobile apps and websites that can be used in the therapeutic process.
  • Identify apps and websites that can be used within a practice setting.
  • Explain legal and ethical concerns regarding the use of mobile apps and websites.

Workshop 2: Cyberbullying in Schools, 3 CE
Presented by Dan Florell, Ph.D.

Cyberbullying has gone from a rare occurrence to something that occurs frequently, particularly in middle and high schools. Unfortunately, the way cyberbullying manifests is constantly evolving as technology changes. This workshop will highlight the latest technology that adolescents are using and how developmental factors in adolescence influence their use of technology to cyberbully. The workshop will then focus on possible interventions and effective approaches to the issue. Skill Level: Beginning

Workshop 2: Objectives

At the completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify several developmental factors that influence cyberbullying.
  • Identify social media and technology that is commonly used to cyberbully.
  • Describe the characteristics of cyberbullying and its' prevalence.
  • Generate possible interventions to minimize the impact of cyberbullying. 


About the Presenter:

Dan Florell, Ph.D. is Associate Professor in the School Psychology Program at Eastern Kentucky University and has a private practice. He is a columnist for the Communique and writes bi-weekly columns in the local newspaper on child and adolescent development. His research focuses on cyberbullying, technology impact on adolescents, and professional issues regarding technology.

It is important to note that APA continuing education rules require that KPA only give credit to those who attend the entire workshop.  An evaluation of the workshop must be completed. Those who arrive more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time or leave before the workshop is complete will not receive CE credit. Partial credit may not be given.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations received on/before Thursday, April 18, 2019, will receive a 90% refund. Cancellations received between April 19 and April 22, 2019, will receive a 50% refund and cancellations between April 23 and April 25, 2019, will receive a 20% refund. CE Credits/Attendance

These workshops have each been approved for 3 CE credits by the Kentucky Psychological Association (KPA).

Psychologists: 
KPA is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. KPA maintains responsibility for this program and its content. KPA is also an approved sponsor for the Kentucky Board of Examiners of Psychology.  

Social Workers & Art Therapists: 
KPA is an approved sponsor for the Kentucky Board of Social Work, the Kentucky Board of Professional Art Therapists. (Provider #1004).

Pastoral Counselors:
KPA is approved to offer Continuing Education to Pastoral Counselors as stated in 201 KAR 38:070, Section 3(1)(b) as an approved KBEP provider.
