Anxiety Disorders in Kids and Teens: Recognizing and Treating the Emerging Epidemic, 6 CE

Presented by Paul Foxman, Ph.D.

In this workshop, you will learn ways to “connect” therapeutically with anxious children and teens, and inspire them to learn how to manage and even prevent anxiety. You will also acquire strategies to help anxious parents (“bulldozers,” “helicopters” and “snowplows”) be more effective in supporting their anxious children. In addition, you will learn what recommendations to make to schools and teachers to help manage anxiety in students. Skill Level: Intermediate/Advanced

Workshop Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Apply the “Three Ingredients” framework for understanding how, why and when anxiety occurs in children and youth.
  • Identify 10 specific strategies to mitigate the stress factor in child and adolescent anxiety.
  • Describe 8 steps teachers can take to reduce anxiety in the classroom.
  • Apply at least one effective therapy strategy for each of 7 key anxiety disorders.
  • Explain 3 steps that schools can take to meet the needs of anxious students.
  • Utilize a therapeutic alliance with parents to address their generative anxiety.
