Workshop 1: Advanced Supervision: Balancing the core competencies of alliance, ethics, diversity, and evidence-based practice, 3 CE

Presented by Scott Salathe, Psy.D. & Brighid Kleinman, Ph.D.

Participants in this advanced supervision workshop will have the opportunity to review and deepen their knowledge and attitudes in the core competencies of supervision—based one of the best trans-theoretical models. Additionally, participants will be invited to self-assess and discuss their own supervisory strengths and areas for improvement. This program meets the advanced supervision requirement for KBEP approved supervisors. Skill Level: Advanced

Workshop 1: Objectives

Participants will be able to:

• Develop a defining and deepening knowledge of supervisory alliance.
• Develop a defining and deepening knowledge of ethics within supervision.
• Develop a defining and deepening knowledge and attitude toward issues of diversity.
• Develop a defining and deepening knowledge of evidence-based supervision.
• Identify supervisory strengths and areas for improvement through self-assessment.

Workshop 2: Applications of the Ethics code in the Rural Practice Environment, 3 CE

Presented by R. Douglas Olds, Psy.D. & Vicki Van Cleave, Psy.D.

This 3-hour presentation will address the ethical challenges of rural practice with special attention to child and family clients. The presenters will review applicable ethics code, case examples, and an ethical decision-making model and discuss risk management strategies that expand traditional decision-making models to address the unique challenges of a rural practice environment. Attendees will participate in group discussion utilizing the model presented. This workshop fulfills the KRS 319 3 CE requirement for ethics/risk management. Skill Level: Beginning

Workshop 2: Objectives

Participants will be able to:

• Identify a wide variety of unique challenges to ethical practice experienced by practitioners in rural environments.
• Identify and utilize a risk management model in the consideration of ethical situations in rural practice that challenges the conventional application of the ethics code and risk management strategies.
• Discuss the ethical decision-making model formulated for the unique challenges of rural practice and have the opportunity to apply the model in small group experiential exercises.

About the Presenters:

 Scott Salathe, Psy.D. is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in private practice, specializing in adults, families, and couples. He completed his doctorate at Spalding University and clinical internship at Emory University Counseling Center. He has served on the Clinical Faculty of Spalding University for over 10 years, and has broad experience in site supervision and university consultation with graduate students, LPAs, and post-docs in schools, hospitals, CMHCs, correctional facilities, and private practice settings.

Brighid Kleinman, Ph.D. is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Louisville. She specializes in relationship difficulties, anxiety, and mindfulness based psychotherapy. Dr. Kleinman earned her doctorate at Emory University, completed a clinical internship at the University of California, Berkeley, and a postdoctoral fellowship in Health Psychology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. In addition to practicing psychotherapy, Dr. Kleinman is an adjunct professor at Spalding University and provides university-based supervision, as well as site supervision of practicum students.

R. Douglas Olds, Psy.D. is a graduate of Spalding University School of Professional Psychology and completed his pre-doctoral internship training with the University of Louisville School of Medicine, Bingham Child Guidance Center in Louisville. Dr. Olds has over 20 years of experience in mental health service delivery in rural and urban mental health centers, mental health program administration, clinical supervision, and the formal education of graduate level mental health trainees across the state of Kentucky. Currently, he is an Associate Professor and Director of Clinical Training at the University of the Cumberlands Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology Program. He teaches courses in Ethics and Legal Issues in Psychology, Psychodynamic Psychotherapies, and a course in Supervision, Management, and Consultation, in addition to other clinical courses.

Vicki Van Cleave, Psy.D., is in private practice Campbellsville (serving several South Central KY counties), teaches adjunct at Lindsey Wilson College, and is licensed in Kentucky, Virginia, Colorado and Montana. She's published one children's book and working on a second. Areas of interest include TeleMedicine; Prescription Privileges, Ethics. Specialties include: trauma recovery; couples treatment. She treats clients from 3 years old and up across the lifespan.

It is important to note that APA continuing education rules require that KPA only give credit to those who attend the entire workshop.  An evaluation of the workshop must be completed. Those who arrive more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time or leave before the workshop is complete will not receive CE credit. Partial credit may not be given.

Cancellations received on/before June 14, 2018 will receive a 90% refund. Cancellations received between June 15 and June 18 , 2018, will receive a 50% refund and cancellations between June. 19 and June 20, 2018 will receive a 20% refund.
