This workshop explores key factors related to childhood depression. We will delve into risk factors for depression, assessment and effective treatment approaches. Cutting edge treatment strategies such as Positive Affect Treatment will be explored, along with traditional treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Attendees will leave the workshop with practical tools and insights to support youth with depression. Skill level: Intermediate

Based on the content of this workshop, attendees will be able to...

  • Identify key factors that contribute to the prevalence and assessment of childhood depression.
  • Describe effective assessment and treatment components for managing childhood depression.
  • Identify strategies for engaging parents and addressing the familial context in the treatment of childhood depression.

 About the Presenter

Dr. Emily Bilek is a board-certified clinical psychologist and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan. She specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure-based treatments for pediatric anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and related emotional disorders. Dr. Bilek is a co-author of the Unified Protocols for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Children and Adolescents and is dedicated tot improving treatment accessibility and effectiveness for youth. In addition to her clinical and research work, she has a passion for teaching and supervising trainees, while also engaging in community outreach to promote mental health awareness.

CE Credits/Attendance:
It is important to note that APA continuing education rules require that KPA only give credit to those who attend the entire workshop.  An evaluation of the workshop must be completed. Those who login more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time or leave before the workshop is completed will not receive CE credit. Partial credit may not be given.

This program is approved for 3.0 CE hours by the Kentucky Psychological Association.
