This presentation for the Kentucky Psychological Association introduces Radically Open-Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT) as an innovative treatment approach for problems of emotional over control. Based on extensive research and clinical trials, RO-DBT addresses disorders of overcontrol by targeting emotional loneliness and promoting social connectedness through new therapeutic strategies. Participants will learn about the biosocial theory of overcontrol, the structure and strategies of RO-DBT, and techniques to enhance flexible responding and social connection. Skill level: Intermediate

Based on the content of this workshop, attendees will be able to...

  • Explain a new biosocial theory for OC.
  • Describe the RO-DBT treatment structure.
  • Describe new RO-DBT treatment strategies designed to enhance willingness for self-inquiry and flexible responding.
  • Describe the new RO-DBT treatment hierarchy.
  • Describe a novel treatment mechanism positing open expression = trust = social connectedness.
  • List examples of strategies designed to improve pro-social cooperative signaling via activation of the parasympathetic nervous systems' social-safety system.
