Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) affects about 1.3% of Americans and research suggests that OCD symptoms have worsened since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this workshop, participants will gain knowledge and insights into the key diagnostic features of OCD and how to assess them. Additionally, Participants will come away with concrete, specific interventions they can utilize to help those suffering with OCD and overcome common roadblocks in treatment. Skill Level: Beginning

  • Identify at least one common roadblock in the treatment of OCD.
  • Describe interventions to address common roadblocks in the management of OCD

About the Presenter

Brenda Arellano, M.S., L.P.A., is a bilingual (Spanish and English) Licensed Psychological Associate. She received her Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the University of Louisville in 2017 and currently works at the Behavioral Wellness Clinic, where she specializes in providing empirically-supported treatment for individuals of all ages suffering from OCD. Brenda also treats individuals suffering from eating disorders, anxiety, depression, trichotillomania, excoriation and behavioral difficulties. As a fluent native Spanish-speaker, Brenda provides therapy in both English and Spanish. She is trained in delivering various empirically supported interventions, including Exposure and Response Prevention, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness and Acceptance Based Interventions. Her training in various therapeutic approaches allows Brenda to adapt the therapeutic experience to best fit the needs, strengths and goals of her clients.Outside the therapy room, Brenda enjoys advancing psychological science. She is passionate about providing outreach in underserved communities. Brenda is embedded in the psychological community and has been invited to speak on topics related to mental health, OCD treatment and child treatment, as well as invited to review research articles for publication. Brenda serves as the at-large representative on the Kentucky Psychological Association (KPA) board of directors, and is an active member of the KPA continuing education committee. Brenda also enjoys spending time hiking, knitting, and spending time with friends, family and her Chihuahua, Chispita.

This is a virtual event - attendees will receive the link to access this webinar's virtual platform Zoom after completing their registration.
It is important to note that APA continuing education rules require that KPA only give credit to those who attend the entire workshop.  An evaluation of the workshop must be completed. Those who log in more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time or leave before the workshop is completed will not receive CE credit. Partial credit may not be given.
