Adding Yoga and Meditation to Your Daily Routine: Increasing self-care for practitioners and clients, 2 CE

Presented by Margaret Calvery, Ph.D.

Psychologists and other mental health workers have faced increased personal and professional stress as front-line workers in the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the last year, this increased stress for both clinicians and our clients has demanded extra attention to the ways we all cope. Clinicians attending this workshop will learn the basics of yoga and meditation as a way of enhancing our own self-care and as an additional tool to expand our client’s coping toolkits. Dr. Calvary will review current empirical evidence for the benefits of yoga and meditation. She will also draw on her own experience practicing yoga and working with yoga in her clinical practice. This workshop is meant to act as a bridge to clinicians who want an introduction into the practice of yoga and an understanding of its impact for their clients. A portion of the workshop is designed as an introduction for clinicians to the practice of yoga. This will include a demonstration and brief introduction to basic yoga poses. Skill Level: Beginning

Workshop Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Explain the connection between chronic stress and the remediating effects of yoga and meditation.
  • List deterrents to yoga and meditation and complete a self-study to determine their personal deterrents.
  • Implement several basic yoga poses and complete a simple guided meditation that can be easily integrated into daily routines.
