Suicidality and Telehealth: Ethical Crisis and Risk Management in the Age of Telepsychology, 1.5 CE

Presented by Rachel Buehner, Ph.D.

Workshop Description:

As telehealth becomes the primary delivery method for care by mental health providers, understanding how to manage client crises, especially related to suicidality, becomes imperative. Discussion topics will include preliminary and ongoing crisis planning and considerations, resource installation for clients in rural and urban locations, and how to help a client to access more acute care when telehealth will no longer suffice. Additionally, pertinent statutes and regulations related to the provision of telehealth, particularly related to crisis planning, will be discussed. This webinar fulfills 1.5 of the 6 hours necessary according to the KRS 210.366 requirement for suicide prevention training AND fulfills 1.5 of the 3 hours necessary according to the KRS 319 ethics/risk management requirement for psychology professionals. Skill Level: Intermediate

Workshop Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify legal and statutory considerations related to crisis planning and telehealth clients.
  • Identify effective means for initial and ongoing crisis management planning, in addition to how to broach the topic of crisis planning with clients who have transitioned from office-based to telehealth care.
